His progress didn't wait for his therapy sessions

A story from Living Rehab

‍

Glen fell in a parking lot. The fall fractured his right leg and bruised his whole right side. When he arrived at Living Rehab, he could hardly get in and out of bed. Reaching his wheelchair meant sliding across a board.

THE CHALLENGE

His recovery did not run in a straight line. He developed wounds along the way, and had a toe amputation. After that, progress came in small pieces. Most of those pieces happened when nobody was in the room with him. Despite the care team's best efforts, they were still in the dark about his mobility when they couldn't observe him. How much he moved between sessions, and how well, was mostly guesswork.

HOW ONESTEP HELPED

With OneStep's continuous monitoring on his own phone, his care team could see how he was walking between sessions. They could see how many steps he took, including the days he went out with his son. He started watching his own numbers too, fascinated by his sit-to-stand count climbing. The data also showed his therapists something they could act on. His double support time had been leaning toward his left side, away from the fractured leg. Over the weeks, it evened out.

WHAT CHANGED

He walks on his own now. He showers on his own. His weight goes through both legs evenly now, instead of favoring the good one. The confidence in that leg followed. After all that hard work, Glen has a plan to go home.

He came in sliding across a board. He is going home on his own two feet.
